I was not happy with the size and look of the scanner and after reducing the size of the internals, and a lot of testing I came up with a solution.

Solution

Get rid of the three AAA batteries and reduce to one.
Design and print a new battery pack that will hold only one AAA battery, and fit it into the main internal housing
