Why is wasting food bad?
Discarded food is sent to landfills and produces methane gas which is the second most common greenhouse gas.
Throwing out food contributes to climate change and methane is 86 times more powerful than carbon dioxide.
According to the World Resources Institute, 24% of all the water used for agriculture is lost through food waste every year. That’s 45 trillion gallons (about 170 trillion liters).
A study by the consulting group McKinsey found that, on average, household food losses are responsible for eight times the energy waste of farm-level food losses due to the energy.
Food Waste in Households
In terms of total mass, fresh fruits and vegetables account for the largest losses at the consumer level (19 percent of fruits and 22 percent of vegetables), followed by dairy (20 percent)
Approximately 40 to 50 percent of food waste happens at level of the consumer.
Households are responsible for the largest portion of all food waste. ReFED estimates that US households waste 76 billion pounds of food per year.

I was not happy with the size and look of the scanner and after reducing the size of the internals, and a lot of testing I came up with a solution.
